Go ahead. Ask PA PRESS author David Stravitz about the Chrysler Building! · Dec 7, 10:21 AM
This week, David Stravitz, the author of The Chrysler Building: Creating a New York Icon Day by Day will be responding to questions about the construction, history and design of the landmark building that turns 80 next year. Mr. Stravitz writes, “To me it’s a spaceship that landed in 1929 (during the crash) and is still just visiting this otherwise primitive civilization called Earth. It’s good for us it landed in New York that was a site of the old East Post Road. Remember, in 1928-1930 there was nothing to compare with this genius of design. Look at the boxy cars against this Deco masterpiece.”
Readers who would like to submit a question for Mr. Stravitz should do so here. His first set of answers will be published on Wednesday.

The Chrysler Building: Creating a New York Icon Day by Day is available now from Princeton Architectural Press or from your favorite bookseller.
The New York Times Book Review:
“[The Chrysler Building] goes way beyond the mundane progress shots typical of most construction projects. What sets these nuanced black-and-white depictions apart is how well they place the subject within the context of the city.” (December 8, 2002)
