Now that Independence Day is behind us, it is time to get excited about that other great American celebration…the Iowa State Fair!

PA Press happens to have a book called Iowa State Fair: Country Comes to Town coming out in August just in time for the festivites.

A 600-lb. butter cow would butter 19,200 slices of toast and take an average person two lifetimes to consume, according to sponsor Midwest Dairy Association.

Iowa State Fair samples every flavor at the fair, from the fairy tale State Fair of the Rodgers – Hammerstein musical to the surreal site of staged locomotive collisions to butter sculptures of a cow and The Last Supper. Beauty-queen contestants, fans of Kid Rock and Kenny Chesney, 30,000 annual blue ribbon winners, and deep fried Twinkie eaters fill its pages with visual delight.

Author Tom Leslie will discuss his new book Iowa State Fair on The Exchange, a daily news/talk show broadcast on Iowa Public Radio, on Monday, July 9 from 10-11 a.m.

Make yourself two lifetimes of buttered toast and tune in!
