PA Press graphic designers Deb Wood and Jan Haux are featured in the new STEP Inside Design State of Design 2007 issue.
Our Design Director Deb Wood is cited for Laporte, Indiana, and More Than Words, and the Paint By Number Kit.
“Deb Wood, the design director at Princeton Architectural Press, knew the key to honoring these images—and the regular townspeople they depit—was to create a design that was dignified rather than kitschy or silly. The book is really simple, and it should be simple,’ she says…”
“More Than Words inspires immediate snail mail envy. ‘We all love to get a hand-addressed envelope,’ says Deb Wood, ‘There’s a lot of life in them. It’s so much better than e-mail.’ To honor this rare quality, Wood gave each creation room to breathe on its own spread. And it’s while trying to decipher some of the scrawled handwriting that you’ll discover one of Wood’s best design decisions. She worked with the editorial team to have all the letters transcribed, and this text is set on uncoated stock at the end of the book…”
PA Press graphic designer Jan Haux is cited for Liquid Stone:
“The genius of Liquid Stone lies in its ability to toe the line between coffee table book and technical tome. ‘It’s a hybrid,’ says Jan Haux. ‘It’s a technical topic but with very exciting architecture.’ Lay people can enjoy the pure beauty of the cutting-edge buildings while those in the trade dig deeper into the text and diagrams. To satisfy these different readers, Haux placed in-depth essays at the front of the book on uncoated stock. . . Plus, the team at Princeton Architectural Press worked with more than 40 architectural firms to get just the right images—ones that would demonstrate concrete’s abilities and highlight the gorgeous forms of each project. There are also subtle nods to the flexibility of concrete throughout the book, including the gentle wave shapes formed by the text on each section’s table of contents.”
Congratulations Deb and Jan!
